Audioslave - First Release - 2002 + 1 Bonus Track + Covers
Info: AUDIOSLAVE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Like A Stone" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. A modern day super-group composed of ex-members of heavy rock titans Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave was subject to some pretty high fan expectations. Luckily, the group delivers just what the doctor ordered: a seamless mix of the styles that made the individual members famous. Basically a stoner rock record par excellence, AUDIOSLAVE strips the genre down to its core, serving up one pile-driving riff after another with minimal, but perfectly placed, production flash. In any given song, the band repeats said riffs with even more bone-crushing attitude each time. Just when the listener thinks his/her head will go numb from too much stud-rock low E-string twanging and Montrose-era Sammy Hagar-esque wailing, however, Audioslave wisely throws in a ballad. Sure, it's a proven rock formula, but these guys are professionals fully in control of the situation; AUDIOSLAVE bristles with a no-frills, offhand intensity that throws down and reminds those silly nu-metal poseurs what heavy rock is all about.
Quote: Audioslave: Chris Cornell (vocals); Tom Morello (guitar); Timothy Commerford (bass guitar); Brad Wilk (drums).

Audioslave - Out Of Exile - 2005 + 2 Bonus Tracks + Covers
Info: OUT OF EXILE presents a band that has grown comfortably into its own skin. Three years after Audioslave's highly successful debut, the supergroup crafted a truly formidable rock album with a fresh, live-in-the-studio rawness. Former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello rolls back the distortion subtly, playing with a notably more melodic touch, best evidenced on "Heaven's Dead" and "Dandelion." Soundgarden's Chris Cornell's weathered voice at times walks a perilous ledge, yet never to a fault--that very danger and heartfelt soulfulness are part and parcel of his revered approach. The heady and poetic "#1 Zero" and "Be Yourself" strongly uphold Cornell's consummate lyrical prowess. OUT OF EXILE could hardly be an Audioslave record without a crop of head-thrashing, foot-stomping riffs, as revealed in "Your Time Has Come," "The Worm," and the powerful title track. Bassist Tim Commerford remains supportive and inventive in his playing, while Brad Wilk notches up his drumming considerably, taking chances and stretching beyond his dependable grooves on the band's first release. With the crack production and mixing of Rick Rubin and Brendan O'Brien, respectively, OUT OF EXILE raises the bar for the quartet on all levels.

Audioslave - Revelations - 2006 + Covers
Info: The hard-driving supergroup's third album is a seething mix of rock and R&B in the grand old fashion of Led Zeppelin, and although singer Chris Cornell is no Robert Plant, the band's unified musical vision belies the usual music biz scenario of warring oversized superstar egos. The album-opening title track is a superbly confident hunk of riff-rock, and Tom Morello's wah-wah guitar pyrotechnics on "Sound of a Gun" likewise conjure heavy rock's early-1970s golden years. There's also genuine political rage here, with the pounding beat and insistent chorus of "The Original Fire" heralding a call to arms (while Morello's solo is an eccentric gem), and songs like the quietly seething "Wide Awake" focusing the band's anger at institutionalized inaction in New Orleans after the devastation of hurricane Katrina. Though "Nothing Left to Say But Goodbye" and "Moth," the album's two downtempo tracks, are subtle, they're no less intense, thanks to Cornell's committed vocal delivery. Unsurprisingly, though, the band sounds most at home when it's rocking, whether on the snaky funk of "Broken City" or the full-frontal assault of "One and the Same."
